Fine line runs thinner than blackwork or traditional American work. We start from the needle sizes tattooers actually load for each style, then adjust for how much detail you want.

Contrast for your skin

Stencil ink needs to stay visible while your tattooer works. Deeper skin tones usually need a bolder outline or a different transfer paper, lighter tones can stay standard.

Placement and curve

Ribs, hands and fingers move and curve more than a flat back or thigh. Curvier or high-motion spots usually mean the stencil gets applied in sections, not one piece.

Is this an actual stencil printer?
No. It is a prep tool. It works out the line weight, contrast and rough timing for your piece so you walk into the studio with real numbers, not a guess. The actual stencil still gets made and applied by your tattooer, or generated as a design with inke.app first.
Where do the line weight numbers come from?
From the needle sizes tattooers commonly load for each style: thinner liners for fine line and dotwork, thicker ones for blackwork, neo-traditional and traditional American work. It is a starting point for a conversation with your artist, not a rule carved in stone.
Why does my skin tone change the recommendation?
Stencil ink has to stay visible on your skin while your tattooer works. Darker skin tones often need a bolder outline or a different transfer paper to keep fine lines from disappearing mid-session.
Why does placement matter so much?
Flat areas like the back take a stencil in one piece. Ribs, hands and fingers move and curve, so the stencil usually goes on in sections. That changes how long the outline actually takes to apply and hold.
Is the time estimate accurate?
It is an estimate built from typical minutes per centimetre for each style and detail level, not a quote. Healing skin, the exact design and your tattooer's own pace change the real number every time.
Does this replace inke.app's design generator?
No. inke.app generates flash designs and lets you try them on a photo first. This tool is for the practical side, once you already know roughly what you want and need to plan the session.
Is anything I type here saved?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you enter gets stored or sent anywhere, aside from an anonymous ping that tells us the tool was used at all.
